Most vehicles use nuts on the wheels, it's just a standard hex shaped item that a socket goes over. Some use a bolt which is basically the same thing, it has a hex. On some cars we have what's called splines and so instead of a socket, it's a series of spines and we have a special socket that slides over. Once again, that's a universal thing.

So a catalytic converter can fail catastrophically and if it melts down, it can plug the exhaust and then your engine will either not run or have very little power.
