AC Troubleshooting
To determine if your AC needs a recharge, first switch the system from hot to cold and check if the heat turns off. Ensure that the engine is running and the electric fan by the radiator is operational, as a malfunction can indicate issues. Additionally, inspect the compressor while the engine is running and the AC is on to confirm it is functioning properly.
Refrigerant Level Check
To determine if your AC refrigerant level is sufficient in a Chevy Silverado, check that the compressor is running with the air conditioning on. Examine the large line coming from the firewall; it should feel around 40°F. If it's only cool to the touch, the refrigerant may be low or there could be an internal valve issue.
Compressor Functionality
When assessing your car's AC, note that the larger line from the firewall should feel about 40°C; a cooler temperature may indicate low refrigerant or a valve issue. Avoid touching the smaller line as it can get very hot. Safe travels!
