Why does my car battery keep dying? Welcome to Mercie J, where compassion and craftsmanship come together, I'm Rick Smith. So let's understand our system just a little bit. The car battery is primarily there to start the vehicle, it's also sort of a balancer for the electrical system. While the car is running, cruising down the road, your alternator produces electricity to maintain the battery and run all the equipment that's getting run. So if the battery keeps dying and the battery is healthy(so you got to have that checked) then we probably have something draining the battery. A light could be on, it could be something as simple as maybe you have a problem with one of your visors and the vanity light staying on and you don't know it. We could have a problem with the computer not turning off. Any number of things that keep the battery draining when the cars turned off. There's a test called a parasitic draw test that we can do and we want the amperage to be very minimum. There's always going to be some draw but we needed to be super minimum. Also one of the things that sometimes guys forget to check is the alternator diodes. So an alternator can actually produce voltage and charge, but not at it's full capacity, so then it can actually drain the battery when it's off. So that's one of the tests that we do. We look for alternating current coming out of the battery instead of direct current because that's what the diodes do. So bottom line is if the alternator's functioning and the battery's healthy, we got to figure out what is remaining on that is draining the battery. Thanks for watching and until next time, safe travels blessings to you.
