Do you need to change Rear Differential Fluid?

What is a differential service? Welcome to Mercie J Auto Care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I'm Rick Smith, master certified technician. Now the idea of a differential is when you turn a corner, one wheel is going to turn slower than the other, because one has to travel farther. So we have gears in there, they’re called differential gears and so like any gear they need lubrication. So periodically you need to change the fluid in the differential. Some vehicles have one in the rear. Some have one in the front. Four wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicles have them at both ends. Here at Mercie J, we typically we suggest changing this about 90,000 miles on synthetic gear oil in the differential. Thanks for watching and until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.
