Will Corrosion on my Battery keep my car from starting?
Will corrosion on my battery keep my car from starting?
Will corrosion on my battery keep my car from starting? Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I'm Rick Smith, master certified technician. Now if you have corrosion on your battery, then yes it can stop your car from starting at some point. What we have is a post and a clamp that goes around the post, that’s our cable or our terminal. If we get corrosion in there, we can stop from having good contact. So you don’t want to be in the grocery store and come out and have ice cream in your trunk and then your car won’t start or come out of the doctors office and try to get your kid home so he can rest and your car won’t start. The other thing that can happen if that corrosion spreads, it can eat away at the cable and can also get on other wiring harness and cause issues or hoses and things like that. So bottom line is if you have corrosion buildup and it looks like a science project on your battery then it’s a good idea to get it cleaned up and also clean the connection between the battery and the cable. I hope this has been informational to you and until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.
