Why is my Radiator Leaking?

Radiator failures are frustrating and one of the things that frustrates people the most is that they can come on for no apparent reason. If it happens to be right after a car’s recently had it's oil changed or been in the shop it's east to say well what happened while I was in the shop? Let me tell you a story. I had an old Nissan Pathfinder. It was parked in my garage. It was covered up. I hardly ever drove it. One morning I go out and my garage floor was covered in antifreeze, radiator fluid or coolant whatever you want to call it. In most of our cars, the radiator has an aluminum core. That’s where it does it’s cooling. It has an upper and lower tank. Those are made out of plastic. It’s not uncommon for all the sudden with no warning for the plastic tank to crack somewhere. Typically around a seam. They can also begin leaking around the seal where this tank is crimped to this core. Unfortunately they don’t get much warning and it just happens.
