Why do fans have a different number of blades?

Why do fans have a different number of blades?

Why do fans have a different number of blades? Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, Master certified technician. I’m not an engineer, so I’m gonna answer that question to the best of my understanding. First of all, when we are doing anything on a car, there’s a number of factors we have to consider. We have to consider things like the fuel economy, horse power, comfort, all of that. So as we change the number of blades on a fan, we change the performance including how much air it will push across. So we do a couple things. One is we can run fans at different speeds, and we can change the number of fins to control how much air we can get with a certain amount of energy. The harder it is the spin it, the more electricity we’re going to use which means the lower fuel economy of the vehicle. Which can also cut into horsepower and the fans can also get very noisy. We have some big fans here at the shop and if we turn them all on it sounds like there’s a big airplane in here. So to the best of my knowledge we’re looking for trying to make them as quiet as possible while being as efficient as possible. I hope that answers your question. Until next time safe travels and blessings to you.
