What is an ABS system? We’re gonna see if we can address that question for you today. Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, Master certified technician. Now ABS stands for anti lock brake system. I want you to imagine that you’re driving and when you turn your front wheels, you control the car. If you put those into a skid, you lock those wheels. You can turn but it’s just going to continue to move. You don’t have control of the car. So the purpose of ABS is it watches to see if any wheels lock up and then it releases them momentarily. It’s really great in things weather conditions like ice and snow because it will really help you maintain the car in situations where the wheels wanna skid. Also its helpful in an emergency situation. It could be really freaky if you’ve never experienced it so I usually suggest to people if it’s a rainy day here in Arizona, we don’t have snow or ice anything, but if it's a rainy day and there’s an empty parking lot go out there and do some hard stops because you’ll feel the car kind of jerk back-and-forth a little bit you’ll feel the pedal pulse and you’ll hear noises but you wanna stay on the brakes and continue to steer your car. That’s how you can drive it properly but it’s good to experience it take for teenagers out as well and helpful for you to understand what ABS is and how it functions and what to expect if you end up using it. Thanks for watching until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.
