Diagnosing Fluid leaks on a Car

We recently shot a video on the most difficult things to fix on a car. Today we’re gonna talk about one of those which is Fluid Leaks. Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, master certified technician. One of the most misdiagnosed areas on a car that people spend a lot of money unnecessarily is on leaks and there’s a couple of reasons for that. One is that our engine compartments have become so compact that a lot of times, to do a good inspection you have to pull things apart. Secondly, leaks can travel everywhere, and the wind underneath the car can spread fluid like oil, power steering, coolant, any of those, all over the place. Here at Mercie J, we have a very specific procedure. We start with a visual, which is Important. Next, we put some dye in the system and the nice thing about the Dye is we end up using a black light and some special goggles. Now the black light is actually a blue colors that comes out and the goggles actually filter out of the color blue so that we can see that dye very clearly. So the Auto Repair shop really needs to have a good thorough process to diagnose fluid leaks properly. Outs is to get things cleaned off, put dye in there and make the leak show back up and then find it. Sometimes it can be done in an hour, sometimes the car has to be driven for a week or so and come back to look at it again.
