What is a Spill & Fill?

What in the world is a “Spill and Fill?” I hope to help you understand what that means in the automotive industry. Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, master certified technician. Have you ever watched a medical drama or a crime drama on TV? You’ll hear all kinds of acronyms and all kinds of phrases that you may be unfamiliar, so you learn what they mean because it’s kind of fun. Well one of the terms in the automotive industry that most people don’t know is called ‘Spill and Fill’. What that means to an automotive technician is that if your car is due for an oil change, I bring it in, throw it up on the on the lift, spill the oil out of it, change the filter real quick, fill it back up and send it down the road. It’s not really a quality oil change service that would include things like checking the tires, checking the fluids and doing a good thorough inspection on the car. A very highly professional technician at this point, when he does an inspection on your car, he will typically use a tablet, maybe a phone. He will go over a good thorough checklist and he will actually take pictures of your vehicles.
