How do I test my Cooling Fan?
I recently was asked, “How do I test my Cooling Fan?” or “How do I know if my Cooling Fan was installed correctly?”
I recently was asked, “How do I test my Cooling Fan?” or “How do I know if my Cooling Fan was installed correctly?” Welcome to Mercie J Auto Care where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, Master certified technician. Most of our vehicles have electric cooling fans, but some trucks and stuff still have mechanical ones. We are talking about the electric ones at the moment. First of all you probably have to have your air-conditioning on to make sure that the fan actually kicks on. The air conditioning just kicked off on this Toyota car, so we will wait for it to kick back on to show you one of the tests you can do. You can take a piece of paper of a paper towel and if you put that piece of paper up it should suck it to the grill. If it blows it, then your cooling fan has been installed backwards. You could also put it inside and if it blows or you can see it’s blowing it on the inside but sucking it on the outside, you know it’s working. Beyond that, it requires electrical testing so you have to read the wiring diagram to know exactly how it works. For mechanical fans, you can do the same exact thing but testing for actual performance is a little bit different. We can’t cover all of that in this video today. So that is a quick test to see if it’s working or not. I hope this has been helpful to you until next time safe travels and blessings to you.
