Imagine a bicycle. You have a crank with pedals that you push on to drive the bike. Inside your engine is a crankshaft. The journals are like pedals on the bike. The rod bearing is like your foot. The piston rod is like your shin and the wrist pin is like your knee. The piston is the muscle that provides the power to drive the crank. There is a lot of pressure on these parts, so keeping them cool and lubricated is critical. Oil is the blood of an engine. If you lose blood pressure, you die. If an engine loses oil pressure it dies. So it is important to check you oil often and change the oil and filter at regular intervals. Also, maintaining your radiator and other cooling system components protect the engine as well.
