What is the difference between cabin filter and engine filter?

What’s the difference between a cabin filter and an engine air filter? That was a question that we were recently. Welcome to Mercie J Auto Care where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, master certified technician.

Now there’s two primary things in your vehicle that breathe. One is you, the driver or the passengers in your car. The second would be your engine. Your engine takes in air and then it mixes it with some fuel, burns it and then puts out the exhaust. So we filter both of those.

If you have an air conditioner in Arizona on your house, then you typically have an air filter in the ceiling of your home, that’s basically like the cabin air filter. The cabin air filter typically is behind the glove box, and what that does is that filters, the air that’s blowing on your face. They can help remove all allergens and pollen and things like that so it’s pretty helpful. The engine air filter is actually outside, under the hood and it’s in a box. It filters the air that the engine breathing.

The thing about them is they can look almost identical in terms of just how they generally look. So one, you’re going to have to do a little assembly inside the car to replace it the other one you have to do a little assembly under the hood to replace it.
