Now the cabin air filter is a filter that's typically behind the glove box in the dash and it serves the same purpose as the air filter for the HVAC system in your home. The one that's typically in the ceiling. Most of those are statically charged so they do collect dust quickly. Some are actually even carbon infused which helps reduce odors.

The short answer is when the filter gets dirty. The longer answer is, typically here in Arizona where we're at, it's a very dusty climate and if you're not going to check the air filter regularly, then you need to change it about once a year or 15,000 miles. That's about how often they accumulate enough dust and dirt to start restricting the air a little bit.

So first of all it's kind of interesting to know that all brakes actually do squeak. The squeak is a high frequency vibration of the brake pad, kind of like a guitar string if you will. The vehicle manufacturers try to design that so it's actually outside of the human audible range.
